May 14 – Hot Wings and Bleu Tease, B.A.D. Studio

Saturday May 14, Buffalo Aerial Dance presented our first ever aerial burlesque show: Hot Wings and Bleu Tease. Burlesque was such a fun style to do. Who doesn’t love feathers, and red lipstick? And even better when it’s mixed with some humor and innuendo. We did it all, plus our usual aerial antics in this all-original show. The show featured aerialists from Buffalo and Rochester, dance numbers, circus-style comedy, and live musical accompaniment, and much chicken-wing themed ridiculousness.

In Pictures: Student Showcase: Into the Rainbow Jungle

The amazing students of Buffalo Aerial Dance did it again! We FINALLY had another showcase in our home studio to share all of these talented performers with you. The theme of this show was super rainbow-y and reminiscent of those snazzy notebooks and stickers that we all loved as a kid (and still)! This showcase featured a wide variety of people and apparatus, with performance on aerial silks, trapeze, aerial hoop, and aerial rope.  Performers ranged from those making their aerial debut to seasoned veterans and some of the B.A.D. pro’s.  We had a big representation of youth performers take the stage too! February 25-26 – Circus at the Kenan Center, Lockport, NY

Remember the before times?  In February of 2020 just before our worlds were turned upside down, we had a fabulous circus show right up the road from our studio, at the Kenan Center in Lockport, NY.   It was an event that brought the whole community together and showed off a bunch of local circus talent.  The event has been a staple in Lockport, and was hosted by the exchange club for over 50 years.  This year, it finally happened again — but with a new host!  Flips Gymnastics has taken up the mantle of keeping the circus alive, and since we share a building with them, and see them every day, it was even better to perform alongside them.  The show did go on! November 6 – Maria Love Charity Ball – Riverworks, Buffalo, NY

Riverworks is a favorite venue for aerial arts, and it’s even better when there’s a beautiful event for a beautiful cause happening.  We were honored to contribute our skills to the annual charity ball, performing silks from the dramatic 30 foot ceilings.  It was great to see our local high schoolers back out on the dance floor, and to have a chance to help them celebrate their senior year.  Lots of sparkles all around reminded us that this event is the kickoff to the holiday season. Here are some videos from the performance:

October 2 – Folkfaces Fest V – Darien Center, NY

We joined forces with the Slyboots Circus for the third time this fall.  The leaves were changing and there was slight chill in the air, but that didn’t stop the circus. Buffalo Aerial Dance ascended the silks and trapeze to the sound of West African Drumming at the annual Folk Faces festival.  Live music from all over the region, great vendors, fire spinners, visual projections, and a gorgeous campground make this festival a highlight of the season.  We’ll see you there in

September 25 – Memorial for Culture – Letchworth State Park

We were asked to perform at a memorial service for a beautiful soul who left the earth too soon.  The woman being honored was a lover of arts, dance, music, and nature, and her memorial reflected all of those passions.  We were so grateful to be included in the celebration of her life.  And there couldn’t be a more fitting place than Letchworth to celebrate her.

September 11 – Music is Art – Riverworks, Buffalo, NY

Buffalo’s massive free arts and music fest finally returned in 2021, and it was more amazing than ever.  There’s so much stuff!  This year’s MIA had over 200 bands/musicians, DJs, live artists, visual arts, dancers, zombies, non-profit organizations, kids village, a circus, a sideshow, and more.  This year also marked the debut of a full blown circus show at the festival with stilters, clowns, fire dancers, jugglers, and of course your favorite aerial performers. Here’s some photos by Buffalo photographer extraordinaire, Glenn Murray.

August 29 – Beau Fleuve Celebration – Central Terminal, Buffalo, NY

Now in its fourth year, Beau Fleuve started as a one-day showcase of music, arts, and culture.  Beau Fleuve grew into a vibrant arts organization spanning generations and cultures.  It now includes an arts center located on the East Side, and a foundation that provides music and arts programs for youth. This year, the annual celebration took place at Central Terminal with musical artists DJ Sets, dance performances, a silent disco, art exhibitions, curated talks, and of course food trucks.  Buffalo’s East side was abuzz with all kinds of artistic goodness.  We enjoyed performing aerial silks, trapeze, and hoop with some great beats by local artists, and one of the coolest backdrops around.

July 22 – Aerial Extravaganza at Sweet Jenny’s, Williamsville, NY

Our second ice cream shop stop of the summer was right in the center of Williamsville at Sweet Jenny’s.  This shop is in an incredible historical building that houses delicious chocolates, homemade ice cream, and old time candies.   We lucked out and had the perfect summer day for people to enjoy a sundae and an aerial show on the huge patio. July 8 – Retro Circus at Cookies and Cream, South Buffalo

For this show, we brought those chic Queen’s Gambit 1950s and 60s aesthetics to life with the help of local sweet shop, Cookies and Cream.   This charming little shop delivers treats beyond just the cookies and ice cream.  Walking in feels like walking back in time to the golden age of the ice cream parlor with green vinyl booths and the perfect checkerboard floor.  Behind the shop is a lovely courtyard where we entertained the Friday evening ice cream crowd with retro-inspired aerial hoop and trapeze acts.   Here’s some brief video highlights from the
