July 8 – Retro Circus at Cookies and Cream, South Buffalo

For this show, we brought those chic Queen’s Gambit 1950s and 60s aesthetics to life with the help of local sweet shop, Cookies and Cream.   This charming little shop delivers treats beyond just the cookies and ice cream.  Walking in feels like walking back in time to the golden age of the ice cream parlor with green vinyl booths and the perfect checkerboard floor.  Behind the shop is a lovely courtyard where we entertained the Friday evening ice cream crowd with retro-inspired aerial hoop and trapeze acts.   Here’s some brief video highlights from the

June 25 – July 3 Slyboots Circus at The Heron Farm and Event Center, Sherman, NY

We joined forces with Slyboots once again for a series of performances at The Heron Farm and Event Center in Sherman, NY as a part of the Little Blue Heron festival.  Slyboots circus brought the beat with West African drum and dance and got the party started with international acrobatic talents.   Stilt-walkers, fire dancers and jugglers contributed to the festivities both inside and out of the circus tent. The Heron Farm has beautiful scenery, and the festival brings talented musicians from all around the area to the stage. This weekend was magical and lovely — despite — or perhaps because of some wild weather patterns.  Incredibly heavy rainfall over a few nights left everything soggy and muddy, but everyone was looking out for each other, helping to keep friends dry and warm.  When the sun finally came out again, it brought with it a lot of humidity and some gusty winds, both very challenging conditions for silks performance.  But luckily the vibe of this event is just to relax and go with it, so that’s what we did.   Here’s a little video of what

June 5 – Taste the Art of Music, Lancaster, NY

Led by Hannah and Jenn, B.A.D.’s Advanced Silks Class rose to the task of putting on our second show of the season at the Lancaster Taste the Art of Music festival on June 5.  These ladies were impressive as always despite the very windy skies. This crew came together as a team with acts that ranged from sweet to sultry and even a few appearances on lyra and trapeze. The town’s festivities also included live music and lots of craft vending.  As the giant fabric fluttered with performers skillfully navigating, B.A.D. aerialists stopped many Lancasterians in their tracks as they came through the festival.

Back to the stage and the skies

We are back on the stage!  We kicked off the summer with two shows already, and there’s more to come! Big shout out to Paul Antonio for hooking us up with our first post-pandemic gig on Memorial Day.  We graced the skies at Yolickity Henrietta as Slyboots provided African drumming and dance, and acrobatics, on the ground, and Paul himself treated the crowd to some music.  It was a festive afternoon with blue, although windy, skies, and plenty of delicious fro-yo. Sept 26 – The Big Easy in Buffalo Concert Series at Duende

The Big Easy in Buffalo brings a taste of The Cresent City to The Queen City.  We love some funky horns and NOLA jazz — you can’t help but dance.   This show at Duende in the Silo City complex brought together our favorite parts of Buffalo with The Brass Machine’s awesome New Orleans jazz and it was a fabulous time! We’d love to say it was the perfect fall day, but it was a little cold and windy to be outside.  However, we are up to the challenge and flew high despite a few chills.  It was well worth it! And we got some beautiful photos courtesy of Jeff Tracy

August 15 – Earth’s Elements: Aerial and Dance at Penn Dixie

Summer is magical to Western New Yorkers, and while cancellations and closures threatened to dull some of the magic, summer’s best feature remained wide open.  The great outdoors is always a pleasure, and aerialists and dancers came together to celebrate nature with inspiration from the four elements of earth, water, air, and fire. Jenn starting some fires on the silks Performers from Buffalo Aerial Dance mimicked flames, soil, wind, and waves with dramatic plunges and playful explorations.  Calling upon natural elements that both thrill us and calm us, dance artists from Metts Dance, shared their choreography in this unique  setting. Penn Dixie Fossil Park & Nature Reserve is a former shale quarry where large amounts of fossils were discovered while it was being mined.  The fossils found there date back 350 million years, and the most famous is the trilobite, a prehistoric marine creature, but there are tens of thousands of fossils on site.  The atmosphere at Penn Dixie evokes prehistoric earth, a time when Western New York (and most of North America) was submerged under

Feb 28-29 – Lockport Exchange Club Circus, The Kenan Center

We were so excited to perform in this full-fledged circus production right in Lockport where our new studio is located!  The Lockport Exchange club has been coordinating this annual circus for 60 years, and our partners from Flips Gymnastics have been involved with the event for the last 30.  We were thrilled to be initiated into the leading event of our new local community.   The show was held at the Kenan Center, and felt just like a big top circus with jugglers, clowns, balloon arts, and live music. Giggles and zaniness were already plentiful, so we brought the drama and suspense to make sure all were entertained to the max.

Feb 15 – Love is Cold: An Aerial Showcase

February brings us blizzards and cupid, snow and sweets, ice crystals and amour.  Buffalo Aerial Dance students and instructors took these themes to the circus. Is love cold literally or metaphorically? Can one really love when one is cold? How cold are we talking? These questions are best answered by dangling majestically in the air, which is of course what we happen to do best!  Our student showcase offered an evening of aerial acts exploring various oddities and afflictions, pushing the idea of Valentine’s beyond Hallmark into something a little different. This event featured aerial performance on Silks, Trapeze, Lyra, Rope, and other circus talents. Photos coming soon!

Feb 8 – ICP Masqerade Ball at Hamlin House, Buffalo, NY

Buffalo’s best masquerade and drag queen ball is a blast every year.  We love performing alongside such talented and sassy queens and supporting a great cause.  The Imperial Court of Buffalo is known for choosing lavish themes, and this year was no exception with stylish Hogwarts decor enlivening an already royal experience.  Our four aerial wizards each flew in from their own house.  The brave Gryffindor stepped it up on trapeze; cunning Slytherin displayed mastery on the aerial rope.  Our Hufflepuff sweetheart charmed the audience with aerial silks, and the wisest of all, Ravenclaw, was supremely creative on the lyra.
